Martha Campbell
One constant that follows Martha Pullen from consumer show to market, through her magazine to her television program is a cheery disposition, the kind that gave rise to the term Southern Hospitality. If you delve into what makes this sewing icon so approachable, youd most likely uncover the roots a childhood filled with happy memories. Martha was born to devoted parents as part of a large, extended family. Her Sundays were spent in church. Her weeks were filled with friendships, reading, bike riding, Girl Scout meetings, piano lessons and excellent teachers. At 9, when other little girls had to content themselves with dolls, she was blessed with the real thing, an adorable baby sister, named Mary. To celebrate a perfect childhood, Martha is introducing the third Martha doll produced exclusively for Martha Pullen Company by the Gotz Company of Germany. Doll-lovers and collectors alike will love this signed, numbered European doll. The first Martha doll was named "Martha" and was limited to 1,997 dolls. The second, "Dress Me Martha" was limited to 1500. These dolls are no longer available. This newest addition, named Martha Campbell (Marthas maiden name), is limited to 400 dolls worldwide and will likely sell out by 2003 holiday season.
Martha Campbell is the namesake of a little red-haired, brown-eyed girl who grew up in a small community of 3000 people, the town of Scottsboro, Alabama. Her mother sewed, and since green was Marthas favorite color, the two often shopped specifically for green fabric. Martha Campbell comes dressed in a green plaid jacket over a cream waisted dress. The jacket is adorned with a wide scalloped peplum, a scalloped collar and cuffs. The dress, which features a pleated skirt, is entirely cream with the exception of a green plaid collar and four matching covered buttons marching down the bodice on a center pleat. Its an ensemble not unlike something the real Martha Campbell would have worn as a child. The dolls red hair, with a slight curl and bangs is partially pulled back in a green plaid bow. This doll captured my heart in an instant, whisking me back to my childhood in Scottsboro, says Martha. This is one of the worlds most beautiful dolls, and Im proud to have her carry my childhood name.
Martha Campbell is made with the traditional Gotz vinyl body, head, legs and arms, designed as a collector piece or as a "play-with" doll. Last year's 23-inch Gotz Martha Pullen limited edition doll "Katherine Ruth" sold out before the shipment arrived from Germany. Order quickly if you want one of these signed and numbered Martha Pullen dolls. Once these 400 dolls are signed, numbered and adopted by Martha Pullen's sewing family, Martha Campbell will no longer be available, ever again.
