Connie Palmer’s royal gown

Royal Confections: All the Proper Details with Connie Palmer – This Connie Palmer workshop is an heirloom sewing dream! An exquisite gown made with pristine white cotton Swiss batiste and the finest French laces and trims – what could be sweeter? The design can be made as a christening gown or a dress (sizes 1-4) fit for a little princess, and it features so many darling details. The bodice includes shaped laces and embroidery, and the sweet sleeves are finished with perfect little bands. The skirt front can become the perfect pallet for a delicate monogram or embroidery.

Of course, Connie will share all her expert embellishing tips and fabulous construction techniques with you! In addition to the pattern and materials, your kit includes beautiful embroidery designs plus a pattern for a slip, the perfect complement to the dress silhouette.

Sulky Embroidery Zen II with Sue Hausmann – If you have machine embroidery experience and are looking to expand upon your skills, this is the perfect course for you! You’ll complete a collection of specially curated projects with Sue Hausmann as you master techniques and broaden your embroidery knowledge. Explore and become confident about “to hoop or not to hoop,” placement of designs and making decisions about what, when and why to use different types of threads and stabilizers – both backings and toppers.

Your finished projects will include a Market Tote, Butterfly Jewelry Round, Folding Flower Tote, Scissors Holder, Applique Pocket and more. Plus, you’ll take home a binder full of project instructions, tips and techniques for threads, stabilizers, 3-D foam embroidery and more. You will also receive all the designs used to complete your projects plus bonus designs!

My knit baby bonnet for girls

I Love My Serger with Kathy McMakin – Last but not least, you can spend your time with me at the serger. We’ll cover everything from basic to more advanced serger techniques while making five projects: A Sweet Little Baby Quilt with a coordinating Sweet Little Pillowcase, two Knit Baby Bonnets (one for a boy and one for a girl), and my Serge-N-Flip Sewing Caddy.

The quilt has an heirloom center surrounded by sashing, borders and cornered bootie blocks, and you’ll learn a variety of techniques you can use on other quilting projects. The sweet bonnets make excellent gifts for baby, and I’ll teach you all about differential feed, needles, cover stitch, lettuce edge and more. And you’re going to love making the sewing caddy – it features a great serge-and-flip technique, and the caddy is so useful and handy.

As part of your School of Art Fashion Boutique retreat experience, all attendees will also enjoy a VIP general admission three-day pass to the Cleveland Original Sewing & Quilt Expo, which will be held immediately after the School of Art Fashion Boutique in the same venue March 31 – April 2. At the Expo, you’ll be able to take part in more great sewing classes, shop and more. Visit our live events site to learn more or register!

Can’t make it to Cleveland? Registration is also open for our School of Art Fashion Boutique in Lakeland, FL March 14-16 and our Vintage Classic Contemporary Licensing in Atlanta, GA July 17-22. Learn more about all of our upcoming live events here.

We pray for the men and women serving our nation in harm’s way, and for all of you.

Much Love to You All & May God Bless,
Kathy McMakin
