Nothing finishes off a holiday party dress better than a big, beautiful sash bow – and nothing helps hold that bow in place like a well-sewn sash keeper. This step-by-step tutorial, shared in the book Perfect Party Dresses by Susan O’Connor, will show you how to make both a straight sash keeper and a looped sash keeper using fabric (the book also includes tutorials for making thread and ribbon sash keepers):

Made from the same fabric as the garment, these keepers coordinate perfectly and can be made as long and wide as necessary. Fabric keepers can be applied as a straight strip or a loop. When handstitching the upper edge of the keeper in place, stitch through a button on the inside of the bodice to prevent the keeper from tearing away. Make a length of finished fabric for the keepers. Cut the required number of keepers the specified length.
