Christening Gown
Cheryl Davidson - 3 Days - (Hand & Machine)

Looking through the beautiful Grandmother's Hope Chest by Martha Pullen, you will see several antique christening coat dresses. Actually, the gown is not a coat at all, but an overdress to be worn with an underdress or fancy petticoat. Cheryl has designed a special two-piece christening ensemble that will echo this antique style. The overdress for this elegant gown is made from sheer cotton Swiss voile, with a white Swiss batiste petticoat extending below the hem edge of the gown. Hand embroidery embellishments down the center front of the gown yoke is complimented on either side with pin tucks, lace insertion, and beading with ribbon. The sleeves are made totally of lace insertion, with beaded entredeux, ribbon and edging for the sleeve band. The skirt of the gown is made of five panels that are sewn together with lace insertion, and extends around to the center back yoke where it is left open from the waist down to the hem. French lace edging, insertion, and entredeux gently gather around the bottom curved hem line of the skirt panels up to the center back waist line. The gown skirt is attached to the yoke with beaded entredeux and ribbon. Around the inside edge of each skirt panel are three rows of corded pin tucks, with the center panel having a lace shaped oval. The bottom oval has hand embroidery of small bullion roses on curling vines These special touches of lace and hand embroidery will make this an heirloom to be treasured forever, and the techniques learned from Cheryl will be used in many future heirloom garments.

What little girl wouldn't feel special wrapped up in this cozy spring ensemble. Our sweet vintage hand embroidered French coordinates include a precious raglan sleeve coat with scalloped collar lined in yummy satin batiste, unique two piece bonnet with a scalloped button on piped crown and removable silk satin ribbon wash ties, plus a child-sized purse… although designed for catching fairies, it might be the perfect place to store a tiny Easter egg. The pattern will be available in a toddler size 1 through toddler size 3.
