1. New Christening Ensemble
Wendy Schoen - 3 Days (Intermediate Hand & Machine)
Cost: $300.00 including kit
For this exciting 3-day lesson, Wendy has planned an absolutely glorious christening ensemble of luscious cotton organdy in soft ethereal colors. Focusing mainly on hand embroidery, this lesson includes basic garment construction, smocking, and fancy finishing techniques by machine and hand. The delightful ensemble includes three pieces for a baby boy or girl wearing size 6 months. The bodice of the crisp, white organdy gown is styled with a high yoke and is covered with hand embroidered Granito dots of ecru thread. Precious puffed sleeves trimmed with French lace edging are generously gathered with smocking and silk satin ribbon. The full long skirt is hand embroidered with a myriad of flowers; shadow stitched and appliqued, then embellished with more Granito dots. The gathers of the skirt are held in place with rows of English smocking to match the fabrics perfectly. The hem is beautifully finished with a wide band of scalloped ecru organdy, Madeira appliqued and attached with the Point de Paris stitch by machine. A matching Peter Pan collar is edged with slightly gathered lace edging. The matching coat features a high yoke bodice and full gathered skirt which opens to the front. Attached to the neck-edge is a round cape collar of matching fabric and embroidery. The cuffs are gently scalloped and edged with more lace and embroidered dots. The precious cap bonnet features Madeira applique and embroidery to match. You will love making this delightful ensemble of traditional Madeira techniques. The first two days of this lesson are jam packed with hand embroidery techniques and garment preparation. On the third day, a sewing machine is necessary in order to prepare the Madeira applique hem, which may be attached by hand or machine. Although this lesson is three full days, students are not expected to complete the embroidery or construction of the garments. The hand embroidery techniques are geared to intermediate embroiderers, so please feel comfortable with basic embroidery and have at least a basic knowledge of garment construction when choosing this class.

2. Carter's Christening Gown
Connie Palmer - 3 Days (Viking Machine Provided)
Cost: $300.00 including kit
As the great-grandson of Connie Palmer, there is no question what your christening attire will be---a Connie Palmer original, of course! Many of you have seen this gown displayed at recent events where Connie has taught and you've been asking when it might be presented as a class. That class is finally here as Connie has graciously agreed to share the gown with us. Yards and yards of lace, entredeux, and Swiss embroideries are combined with machine embroidery motifs to create this magnificent treasure and all of the machine embroideries are from CDs that are companions to the Martha Pullen Vintage book series. Made from Swiss Nelona batiste, this 48" long tailored gown and coordinating slip is suitable for either boys or girls. Its round-neck bodice has an embroidered v-shaped center bordered by entredeux-edged Swiss embroidery and a Swiss edging ruffle. A bias fabric facing and narrow Swiss embroidered edging finishes the neck edge. While the short sleeves are basic in their cut, they are trimmed at the lower edge with a princely width of Swiss embroidery. The skirt is truly an example of Connie's masterful attention to detail. The center front panel is bordered by lace insertion that angles slightly from the lower hem edge to bodice forming an inverted V shape. It has a backwards apron overlay whose two rectangular pieces reveal one of the vintage embroideries peeking through from the skirt's center. The two mirror image apron pieces are created by alternating embroidered squares and pinstitched lace insertion. A border of mitered Swiss insertion and edging finishes the apron edges. The lower section of the center panel has alternating rows of lace insertion, Swiss edging and batiste and the remainder of the skirt is finished with a hem of three 1/2" tucks above lace insertion and Swiss edging. Every stitch of this gown was filled with love when it was created and now you'll be able to make one for a precious little one in your life!
*Embroidery designs used are for in class use only.

Kathy Harrison - 3 Days (Bernina Machine Provided)

Many of Kathy's unique methods are shortcuts in the embroidery process, perfectly executed on the Bernina embroidery machine. Each piece of the front yoke, back yokes, sleeves and collars is stitched in the embroidery hoop, including the guidelines for cutting and sewing, giving perfect design placement every time. The hem of the gown will be finished with Kathy's unique continuous border technique that will cure your fears of re-hooping. Finally, Kathy will share with you her expertise in perfect children's garment construction made easy on the Bernina machine. The christening gown will be fit a size 3-6 months. Students learn how to prepare pre-trimmed cut outs, sandwich fused cut-outs in between a sheer lawn top and base fabric block, outline the rocking horse motif using a straight stitch, and add hand details.
