Dear Friends, This is my personal invitation for you to come to our July 2008 School of Art Fashion and to my 65th birthday celebration! Please know that I am not retiring, just having a big birthday! What excitement that many of you will be bringing your kids from 3rd grade through 12th grade! I will have four of my grandchildren attending the school also! I am so excited to tell you that every student will receive a gift as our thank-you for sharing this special birthday school with me. As a matter of fact, each day our students will receive a special gift with the most wonderful gift being unveiled at the Friday night banquet. I am very excited about this special birthday and the celebration, but don't worry, I am not even thinking about retiring...this is just too much fun! Our schools have grown and developed into such wonderful events. We love producing this school so that YOU, the most important reason that we have the schools, can experience the joy and excitement of learning new sewing techniques. The sewing machine companies are so generous with their sending of teachers, machines and assistants at their own cost, that we absolutely could not offer this school without their help. Many of you already know that we have the world's greatest staff. They will be offering an enormous amount of their energy and care to ensure that you have one of the best times of your life. We have 12 fabulous adult schools to choose from and I promise that one of them will be perfect for you. The adult schools feature baby garments, christening gowns, adult fashion and home decorating projects. We have some of the world's best teachers, and the Pfaff, Baby Lock and Husqvarna/Viking sewing machine companies will each host a school and will be sending creative and talented educators to guide you as you sew and learn. One school, the Beginning Heirloom School, we have now offered for twenty-six years. Once again, we are having our "Sew Kool for Kids Sewing School" as well as the "Teen Sewing School" this summer. We will have fantastic educators that will teach each day in the kids and teen classes. As a special treat for these students, Kelly Chaffin will be a guest teacher in each of the classes. Kelly is an 18 year old college student that is pursuing a degree in fashion design. She has won numerous 4-H and Ohio State Fair awards, won 2nd place in the 2005 Simplicity "Make Your Own Prom Gown" contest and was the Grand Prize winner in the 2006 Simplicity "Make Your Own Prom Gown" Contest. She has been featured in Brio, Threads and Sew Beautiful magazines. All of her gowns were featured at the American Sewing Expo in September 2007. Kelly participated in the 7th Annual Threads Challenge and the 8th Annual Threads Challenge and was awarded Threads Young Sewer's Award for her Princess Diana Replica. She visited our school and participated in the fashion show in 2007. The kids were all so interested and inspired by Kelly, and I know that they will enjoy this special class time with her. There are also a wide variety of pre-day classes from which to choose for those students that come for the full seven day event. Our July 2008 School of Art Fashion celebrating my 65th birthday is without a doubt one of the most creative and best schools ever. What excitement! Please call very early since some of our classes will fill the first day of registration. We do not want you to be disappointed. Registration will begin on March 5, 2008 at 8:00am CST. We furnish bus transportation from the hotels across the street to the convention center in the morning and back to the hotels at night. Our retail store in the Von Braun Center will be open Monday through Sunday. In the store you will find discounts on many items such as fabrics, laces and sewing notions. On Thursday night, I present my antique clothing hanger fashion show with some stories about sewing today and sewing 100 years ago. This is also my official greeting to the group. Thursday night is also the Potato Bar and Table Top Clinic night. This is a great night to snap lots of pictures. Right after the tabletops, I will give a presentation on how "You Can Make Money From Your Hobby." Friday night is the Fashion Show and Banquet where you will receive a special Martha Pullen School of Art Fashion gift as a thank-you for attending the 65th Birthday Celebration School. Joe and I will have a barbecue at the Huntsville Museum of Art on Saturday night. It is a beautiful place and we will be serving delicious southern barbecue as well as homemade pies. I conduct an optional Sunday school class at 7:30am at the Von Braun Center Sunday morning and would love to see you there. We can't wait to see you in July 2008 at the Martha Pullen School of Art Fashion and my 65th birthday party! Whether you are a returning student or you are coming for the very first time, I can't wait to see all of you. "Sewing Made Easy" is our business motto and I promise you will experience this when you come to our school. We have the world's best instructors; they are wonderful teachers and loving, caring individuals. I am pleased to tell you that we have the world's nicest staff. We invite you to come for the sewing vacation of a lifetime. May God Bless You, Martha
