The Retro Christmas Stitchin’ CD is so delightful – I hope we ordered enough of them! At only $19.95 (IEC members pay just $14.00!), these fabulous designs for your 5” x 7” hoops will sell quickly. The 12 designs, digitized in 10 formats, resemble hand embroidery from the 1940s and 1950s – you know everything retro or vintage like that is very popular right now. Click here to see all of the Christmas Stitchin’ designs, including a sparkly holiday tree, a snowman bearing gifts, a beautiful wreath, an elegant candle, and a grouping of three vintage style ornaments. There’s also an individual vintage ornament, a holiday bell, a stack of presents, a gingerbread man, a snowman pushing a snowwoman in a sleigh, and a lovely girl carrying more presents than she can possibly hold! These are open work designs with selected elements stitched heavier, and the result is so authentic, they really do have that homespun charm of hand embroidery. But you don’t have to do the work of hand embroidery to get the look! In minutes, you’ll be able to decorate your own home for the holidays and make a mountain of gifts for family, friends and neighbors if you click here and order your Retro Christmas Stitchin’ Embroidery CD now. These designs will make wonderful teachers’ gifts; put them on your holiday apron; or transform a plain blouse into festive attire. SEWING FOR BABY ORGANIZATION TIP FROM MARY MARTHA, WA
When I sew baby clothes for a shower gift I take a picture and ask the Mother for a picture of the baby in the outfit. I also do this if I have been asked to make something. I mount the pictures and with the photos I put a fabric sample, a lace band sample, any trim used or special embroidery design, sewing skill or feature. I write whom it was for, the size, the date and what it was for. Then I have a record of the things I've made. When someone asks me to make something for their baby I have something that they can look through. It is also a good teaching tool when someone asks, "How did you do that?"
SERGER TIPS AND ADORABLE OUTFIT
I have two tips to share. The first tip has to do with the serger. I seem to have difficulty resetting the tensions on the serger once I have moved them to use a different type of stitch setup. The last time I wanted to change from a four-thread overlock to a three-thread overlock, I took a picture of my settings before making the required changes. Then all I had to do was look at the picture when I wanted to return to the original stitch. The second tip has to do with sewing for my 4-year-old great niece. I just had my heart set on making her a pair of the purple checked fancy band pajamas from your book, Sleepwear Especially for You. It occurred to me that this 4-year-old is very active and needed to have a pair of PJs that could withstand running, jumping, and playing in them. I decided to use a quilting fabric. I made the fancy band a bit wider and faced it, and used a wider (stronger) ribbon width. I felt I needed to put more embroidery on the fancy bands to balance the boldness of the fabric print. I put her initials on the front of the right pant leg so she would be able to tell which was the front of the pant. I also sewed the bows to the fancy bands, so Mom would not have to keep retying them. I have enclosed some pictures of my teddy bear, Tessa, who wears a child's size four, modeling the outfit. Tessa loves to dress up in heirloom clothing. Tessa and her brother Ted (not pictured) are my original designs.

MUMSIE SHARES PUMPKIN PINCUSHION PHOTOS
I had such fun this afternoon sewing one of your "Pullen Pumpkin Pincushions." Thank you for the pattern, and particularly for your blessed inspirations!
PATTY RUSHING LOVES HER “PRIVATE LESSON” WITH LEZETTE
Just had to drop you a note to tell you how much I enjoy my copy of Perfect Peter Pan Collars by Lezette Thomason! I like to consider myself an above average seamstress, but I learned MUCH from this DVD! It was very much like being in a class - only I am much too far away to get to those! The detail was fantastic, and the tips and lessons were very easy to follow. Thanks for your part in this project! Cannot wait to order the next in this series!
Note from Martha: Patty, the next DVD in the series is in the Martha Pullen online store now. It is “Add a Little Smocking.” I am so glad you are enjoying the first DVD, and I am sure you will love this smocking lesson just as much!

Dear Sewing Family,
This group of licensed teachers simply cannot be described well enough. We just had the time of our lives sewing, eating, sharing ideas, sewing some more, eating some more and enjoying the sisterhood of sewing family. Some have been at a MPC event nearly 30 times. Some were brand new to any MPC event. Best friends from many years arrived together. New friends arrived by themselves and had new best friends shortly after arriving. We had a party at Jennifer’s having our pictures made and on to the warehouse for shopping, pizza and more fun. It was a ton of fun to go to the Heritage Club for our dress up night. The students just could not stop ohhing and ahhing over the projects and the kits.
I want to thank Baby Lock for sending Joan Friedrich to assist us in her usual incredibly wonderful way. Thanks to Sulky® for sending Ellen Osten who has a wealth of knowledge about threads and machine embroidery. Connie Palmer and Peggy Dilbone are master teachers, and everyone loved their classes. Dody Baker is always a beloved teacher and has been for many years. Patty Smith is our ‘food and beverage” director and kept us in snacks. We thank LaQuinta Schum, Alicia Welcher, Doris Trout, Angela Jones, Alice Betterton, Betty Ludwig and Sis Hutchison for all of their assisting on about every topic known to sewing. All of this licensing is under the masterful direction of Kathy McMakin, and quite honestly, I don’t know how she does all that she does!
We had fun at our graduation. Each student came to the front as we sang the graduation song. We danced on the way into our night seminars, and all did the YMCA song complete with motions. Just fun is the way I describe our licensings. You absolutely have to come. Brandy Stone said since she has been here over and over and over, “I am going to have to build a new room on my house to put another framed certificate.”
The barbeque was a wonderful going away party. Joe and I always love having the licensing sewing ladies come to our home. We have been doing this for nearly 29 years, and it was all Joe’s idea in the first place to have them come here. They loved my attic, of course, the way I love the attic. Earlier this week, I went up to spend some time in my attic, looking in old suitcases for new ideas for machine embroidery for you with the IEC. No matter how many years I have gone into my attic, I never cease to be amazed at the “new” things I unearth. It brings back so many memories of flea markets in London, Paris, Sydney, Ohio, Massachusetts—I could go on for many states. I have also had several gifts from our readers who simply want to give me their treasures when no one in their family appreciates them. Those are treasures to me also.
Dianne Berryhill took a photograph of me with her iphone at the licensings and showed me how one of the applications can make me very skinny! I loved this picture and only wish getting skinny were this easy.

After I had gathered the students in our living room to say the blessing, Mary Rogers said she had something to present to me. She said in honor of the teachers and all of us at MPC the group had an offering to send to Africa New Life Mission for the sewing ladies there. I was almost in tears when she presented me with a gorgeous card with lots of notes written on it and a very generous envelope filled with checks and cash. How can I ever thank this group for thinking of our sewing sisters in Rwanda, Africa? I emailed Florence immediately to tell the ladies about their American sewing sisters who had thought of them. Thank you, Heirloom I ladies, from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your incredible response to the introductory IEC for 2010! I knew you were going to love it! Don’t you absolutely adore those paper dolls? Now what you need to do is to make something wonderful using these IEC designs and send me pictures for me to share in this newsletter. If you enjoy the wonderful projects, then please know that others would love for you to share yours.
I would like to invite you to join the MarthaPullenfanclub@yahoogroups.com. I read the most wonderful letter from Jackie in California on our fan club this week, and I would like to share. “Hi everyone,” she wrote. “I am a new member in California and found you through an article from Martha's newsletter. In the article, it discussed a Serger Challenge. I am looking for information on the challenge - what are the "rules,” guidelines, etc.? So far, I have enjoyed the posts and look forward to more. My "passion" is machine embroidery, and I just love Martha's designs. I am venturing into heirloom sewing and loving it! One of the ladies at our local sewing machine dealer is a licensed Martha Pullen instructor. She is doing some wonderful classes that I am thoroughly enjoying. Thanks in advance for your support!”
Welcome to the fan club, Jackie, and I am thrilled that you have a licensed teacher at your sewing machine dealer. You will love the classes. I hope many of you have a licensed teacher near you to share all of the glorious projects which we offer at our programs here in Huntsville. And I pray that many of you can come soon to become a licensed teacher. Here are the licensing programs scheduled for 2010. It’s not too early to sign up now!
Licensing dates are scheduled as listed below:
Martha Pullen/Heirloom Sewing I - Jan 12-19, 2010
Martha Pullen/ Serger I - February 10-17, 2010
Beginning II - Teaching Adults & Children - March 5-10, 2010
Martha Pullen/Heirloom Sewing I - April 13-20, 2010
Martha Pullen/Serger II - July 28-4, 2010
You can become a part of these groups. I might add that Serger I, February 10-17, follows very closely to the School of Art Fashion, February 1-7. We try to schedule a licensing very close to the school every February and July, so individuals can do both with only one trip to Huntsville.
We are truly looking forward to going to Pasadena in a few weeks and seeing lots of you there! If you have not yet registered, it is time for YOU to sign up for our West Coast Sewing Extravaganza with Husqvarna/Viking, November 12-15! The four days of sit and sew have some of the best classes we have ever taught. And you licensed teachers who come to take these four days can use these classes to go home and teach to your students. The optional Wednesday night class is our famous Little French Bonnet. Thursday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s classes are as follows: Top, Pajamas or Nightgown! Take your pick! (serger); Madeira Apron (machine); and Elegant Decorator Pillow (machine). The kits are gorgeous and include beautiful cotton fabrics, laces and trims. On Sunday, you have THREE classes: Serger Zippered Lingerie or What Not Bag; My Goodness, How Cute is This Drawstring Bag? (either little girl’s purse or lady’s gift bag); and Kitchen Towel Set - All Dressed Up and No Dishes to Dry!
There will be a Floriani Stabilizer Workshop Thursday night. I will present a “You Can Make Money from Your Hobby” Seminar Friday night. The banquet will be Saturday night. I will entertain you with hysterically funny stories that have actually happened to me during the 28 years I have been in the sewing business. I will lead an optional Sunday school class Sunday morning in the convention center from 7:30-8:30.
Everyone can come to shop during the store hours. There will be a 20% discount for everybody who comes to shop. The registered school students will get an additional 10% off while they are at the event. Please call 800-547-4176 ext. 105 to speak with Sis to register. We will be at the Pasadena Convention Center, and it is one of my favorite places! We just can’t wait and you are invited!
Please order your My Little Baby Dolls quickly. We have a limited supply, and they were flying out the door with their introduction in Sew Beautiful, even before we had them in the newsletter last week. The little hand smocked clothes are adorable, and they are very inexpensive. Can you imagine cutting out, pleating, smocking and constructing a smocked doll dress for $12? And each dress has a little pair of pantaloons. This is an instant doll and wardrobe for your Christmas morning surprise under the tree. We have more on order, but honestly the dresses are in limited supply. Please order quickly, so you won’t be disappointed.

I pray for our men and women serving in harm’s way and for their families. I pray for our president and all of our elected officials who are making critical decisions for our country and for the world at this time. I pray that they will turn their eyes upward before voting. It is comforting to know that God is in control of all the decisions and has the whole world in His hands.
I pray for you and for your family. I pray for healing where healing is needed: physical healing, family healing, business healing and emotional healing. I pray for those of you who are lonely and grieving. I pray for our children and grandchildren. Know how much I love and appreciate each of you, every day in every way. This company exists to bring you sewing joy. Through God’s goodness, we have been able to do this for nearly 29 years. I thank God, and I thank you. Without both we would not be here. It is my pleasure to visit with you each week. You know that my small pink camera is always in my purse to snap pictures, so I can take you on every one of my trips and to every one of our events. I wish each of you could have been here last week at the licensing. Thank you again and again for all you do for me personally and for this company. I send my love as always.
May God Bless You,
Martha

II Timothy 2:15
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
Today, I would like to thank God for the work that our teachers and employees have the opportunity to do for you. As I watched our teachers give everything they have to our licensing students this week, I felt especially grateful for the teachers and teacher’s assistants who work to make our events special for our students. I am thankful for the staff, back at the warehouse. These are people who work tirelessly to bring things back and forth. I am overwhelmed when I look at the curriculum and think of the massive numbers of designers, stitchers, artists, layout and design people, writers, proof readers, etc., that it took to get this curriculum ready for these teachers to bring out to you around the country and even the world. I want to thank them all for a job well done.
I celebrate you and your work that you have the opportunity to do. I am grateful for every job that any of us has the privilege of holding. I am grateful for my job, which has never seemed like work at all. I am grateful for the job/jobs that your family has. I pray for those of you who are looking for work, and I pray for God’s strength and provision until a job is found.
I pray that all of our work is to glorify Him and that we give Him the praise and glory for all that we have been blessed to accomplish. I am so grateful to Him for allowing our business to operate for over 28 years, and I am so grateful to you that you are our customers and that you choose Martha Pullen products for many of your sewing needs. I am so grateful that you come to our educational events and that you purchase Sew Beautiful. I am grateful to every PBS station that airs Martha’s Sewing Room. Without God and without you we would not have this privilege. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
