SEWING TIPS FOR ATTACHING GATHERED LACE TO ENTREDEUX - From Martha McFarland, a licensed Martha Pullen teacher. Martha sent me some tips from a web site. I rephrased them and made them a little shorter for your information. Enjoy! There were 8 tips in all: I'll give you 4 this week and 4 next week. OK?

Tip #1 Use a bamboo skewer and only gather a few inches of lace at a time. Push the lace into the needle with the bamboo skewer.
Tip #2 Sticky notes are great for getting gathered lace "glued" to begin the sewing for a few inches.
Tip #3 Only trim one side of the entredeux at a time.
Tip #4 Divide the lace and entredeux into fourths or eighths. Mark and try to line up.

SEWING TIP FROM MARJORIE HENDRICH - A MEMBER OF OUR INTERNET EMBROIDERY CLUB
I have become an I.E.C. member in the last few months. I have enjoyed all the wonderful designs that are available. I am the proud owner of a new embroidery machine and am having so much fun.
My tip is this: I made samples of the many downloaded designs and put them in a little photo album so I can refer to "the real thing" when I want something particular. I find it fun to share with others as I tell them of my new machine. It's so easy to forget details unless you have a sample before you. Perhaps someone else would find this idea worth adopting.

NEWSFLASH FROM THE GOTZ FACTORY!!!!!

I received this sweet newsletter from our four new Dress Me Dolls (Sarah, Alex, Rebekah and Sydney) this week. I thought I would share it with you!

Dear Miss Martha,
All four of us dolls - Sarah, Alex, Rebekah and Sydney - just wanted you to know that most of us are being packed into our little boxes for the long flight over to America. We cannot wait to arrive in America and begin going to our new homes. We understand that you have designed the most beautiful doll clothes sewing book for our new mothers to use in making us gorgeous clothing. We hope that some of us will be underneath the Christmas tree on Christmas morning for excited little girls. We hope that some of us will be precious gifts to all of those little girls - from 5 to 95 - who love dolls. We are glad that you will be signing each one of us so each one of us will personally meet you before we begin our journey out to special homes. We are each happy with the choice of daygown you have had made to go with us in the box; we would not want to travel without any clothing at all to wear when we arrive at our new homes. We love lavender, pink, green and blue! We really can't wait to see the cute wardrobe that each of our new families are going to make for us. We are dreaming about arriving in Huntsville very soon and about going on to our very important journey out of Huntsville. Please tell everybody it won't be long until we make our trip! We have lots of love for our new folks and we can't wait to have a real home. God Bless All of You until We Make It to America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave,
Alex, Sydney, Sarah and Rebekah

LETTER FROM MARTHA
Dear Friends,

What a wonderful weekend we had at our church at the women's conference. I had the privilege of doing my "You Can Make Money From Your Hobby" workshop two times. Suzanne and my sister, Mary, attended the conference with me. It was a special time of prayer and attending workshops. I attended two workshops, which were excellent, one by Marci Campbell of Nashville and one by Linda Steakley of Huntsville. Two of the ladies in the class are my newsletter friends - one from Huntsville and one from Kentucky. Jane said, "Martha, do you write every bit of that newsletter?" I replied, "The only things I don't write are some of the sewing tips and recipes, and a few other things that you, our newsletter family, write in. I always give credit for the parts which I do not write." As a matter of fact, this is going to be a busy day so I am typing this letter at 4:45am. I look forward to writing this letter every week and I thank you for letting me come to our home.

John kept the three children while Suzanne was over here with us. It is so wonderful to have them home on stateside assignment for eleven months. I have a cute "missionary kid" story to tell you. When they first arrived home, they stayed with us a couple of days before moving to my Mama's house in Scottsboro. Since they really can't get much meat in Africa, I tried to cook lots of meat for our meals. I asked Sarah Joy, aged 9, "Would you like some lamb roast?" She answered by looking at her Mama and asked, "Who killed it?" It is just amazing how different their lives in Africa are from ours here. Suzanne has promised to write some more stories for this newsletter after she gets settled in.

We have a couple of great sales for you this week - so keep reading! We have a very exciting week October 2-9, 2001 - Martha Pullen Pfaff licensed teacher-training week. This will be the only Pfaff licensing until 2002 so if you would like to join our group, we still have a few places and we would love to see you. After talking with the women at the conference this week-end I am reminded, once again, of how many women would love to have their own businesses. These teacher licensings were started to help women (and a few men) have an exciting curriculum to start their own sewing teaching business as well as expand their sewing businesses. Not only do we teach techniques but we also share ways to build a business with sewing and the teaching of sewing. We also explore many ways to earn money with sewing, not just with teaching; however, the main emphasis is teaching sewing since that is an excellent way to earn money with sewing. It is also fun! We have found that being a Martha Pullen licensed teacher indeed opens doors.

I was looking over the Inspirations I - Borders, Scriptures and Quotes embroidery CD this week-end and I thought several of the embroidery designs would be appropriate to stitch out during this difficult time. 1. You must do the thing you think you cannot do - Eleanor Roosevelt. 2. Never give in - Winston Churchill. 3. Cast your cares on him - I Peter 5:7 4. My peace I give to you - John 14:27. 5. When you face trials consider it pure joy - James 1:2. 6. The Lord is my shepherd - Psalm 23:1. 7. I can do all things through Christ - Phil 4:13. 8. Pray without ceasing -Thessalonians 5:17. 9. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet - Psalm 119:105. There are 21 designs, each having a scripture and a quote to fit within the design. Really there are 42 designs on this disk when you consider having both sets of words from which to choose. I cannot think of a sweeter present to give for Christmas than a little wall hanging quilt such as the Wing Needle Entredeux quilt or the Wall Panel quilt from our new quilt book, Martha's Quilts, done using the scripture or the famous sayings designs from the Inspirations I CD. This CD is $90 if you are not a member of the Internet Embroidery Club and $49 (for the rest of this year) if you are a member. Internet Embroidery Club members get huge discounts on our new CD's for a limited time.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK

Or course, my main prayer is for continued healing for those injured September 11, for comfort for those who lost loved ones and for wisdom for our leaders in their decision making. My son, Camp Crocker, has learned that one of his two best friends from Arizona State, Sean, was on the 105th floor of the first building that went down. My prayers go out to Camp in his grief as well as Sean's family and of course to all of those grieving. I used three verses from Philippians 4 for part of my workshop at Whitesburg Baptist Church this weekend. The title of this workshop was "You Can Make Money From Your Hobby." My business motto is: GRACE: G=God as my CEO and business partner. R= Resilience: Get up when you fall down or get knocked down. A=Action, Dreaming is not enough. C=Creativity, When we don't have much money to start a business we have to be VERY creative. E=Enthusiasm. We must have passion and enthusiasm for any business venture and it cannot stop after the business gets going. Since these are three of my favorite scriptures, I wanted to share them with you also. I could not help but think of all the women in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania who were dreaming about having their own home based business so they could work out of their homes. I find so many women dream of having their own businesses. I feel God has called me to mentor as many of these women as possible.

Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks.
7 And God's peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4: 13
13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:19
19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
