Gail Doane – Machine Techniques (Pfaff Machine Provided)
Skill Level – Intermediate
Gail Doane is quite sure she was born with a needle in her hand and has no recollection of ever not sewing. Mostly self-taught but a natural book learner, Gail is detail oriented but quite open to breaking the “rules.” Her work began appearing in Creative Needle and Sew Beautiful magazines in the early 1990’s and continues in current issues. Gail’s first project published in Australian Smocking and Embroidery was in 2002. She has a good eye and great appreciation for quality fabrics. Her personal motto is “keep working on it ’till you get it right.” A self-described complete heirloom sewing addict, Gail brings to the classroom 25 years of hands-on, real life experience, dressing seven children, and now an ever-expanding crew of grandchildren in beautiful heirloom clothing.
Little White Pique Suit
Gail Doane – 2 Days (Pfaff Machine Provided)
Skill Level: Intermediate
Join Gail and learn the construction details involved in creating this classic A-line skirt and “Jackie Kennedy” style boxy jacket for girls. The fabric choice for the skirt and jacket will be white waffle weave pique fully lined with white Imperial batiste. The jacket will be fully interlined with a fusible interfacing for stability and wrinkle resistance. Students will learn Gail’s techniques for how to ‘bag’ a lining, work with small shoulder pads, bind the outside edges of the pockets and collar with microcheck fabric, and how to get a nice professional finish to their jacket. The fully lined skirt will introduce students to a no-fail pinless method of inserting a slot zipper. The skirt hem features a unique method of applying pleated bias-cut ruffle and the waistline is finished with a contrasting facing and an adjustable elastic technique. The simple white cotton knit tank top is finished off with microcheck folded edge picot bias and completes the three piece set. Students will choose their microcheck color in class, and pattern sizes 4, 6, 8, and 10 will be provided.
