By Connie Palmer, Husqvarna Viking/Martha Pullen Licensed Educator

Supplies:
- 1- plain linen placemat
- 1- windowpane hemstitched linen placemat
- 2 and 1/2 yds - 1/8 inch silk/satin ribbon
- 2/3 yd - 1/4 inch silk/satin ribbon
- 1/3 yd - 5/8 inch silk/satin ribbon
- Bodkin or Ribbon Weaver
- purse handles
- embroidery threads
1. Embroider desired initials in the blocks.
2. Using 1/8 inch ribbon, run ribbon through the vertical and horizontal drawn thread areas leaving tails. (Not the one around the outside edge.)
3. Place the plain and embroidered placemats wrong sides together. Pin around the edge, matching up the drawn thread around the outside edge. (The 2 drawn thread areas will not match exactly, just wiggle and fit.)
4. Sew a straight stitch following the drawn thread around the outside edge catching the ribbon tails.
5. Trim ribbon tails up to stitching.
6. Measure the width of your handles.
7. Find center of the top and mark half of the measurement of your handles on each side of the center mark. Do this for both sides of the purse top.
8. Cut 4 pieces of the 5/8 inch wide ribbon 2 and 3/4 inch long for the loops.
9. Fold each in half and pin in place between the 2 placemats at the handle marks, leaving 7/8 inch of loop above top edge of placemat.
10. Sew through both layers across top, catching the ribbon loops as you sew.
11. Fold placemat in half, right sides together, and sew down the sides, 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch from the edges.
12. To box off the bottom, match up bottom fold with side seam and sew 1 and 1/2 inch from point.
13. Turn bag right side out and hook handles in ribbon loops.
14. Using 1/4 inch wide ribbon, cut 8 inch ribbon ties. Tie bows at random intersections of the hemstitching on the purse front.
