Machine Embroidery Coloring Book
by Wilma McFarland

DIRECTIONS:
1. Use broadcloth and a light cut-away stabilizer or non-woven interfacing for pages (stabilizer/interfacing will stay inside pages).
2. Decide your book size and determine whether it needs sequence. Finished measurements of sample books are 9-3/4" x 9-3/4".
3. Cut fabric and stabilizer larger than your hoop. Finished white fabric on samples measures 18-1/2” x 9-3/8".  Two pages share one strip of fabric.  Fold fabric in half and press.  This is center of book.  Fold center fold toward cut edge (if using a 5”x7”) 5” and press.  Fold again from top to bottom and press again to mark embroidery design centers.
4. If your book has sequence, lay out and number pages (You don't want A B C to be A C G).  Keep all page numbers in line.  Enlarge designs as much as possible to provide large coloring areas.
5. When embroidery is complete, block as you would for a quilt, making pages 1/2” larger than planned book pages.   Consider serging book pages together, leaving an opening at lower center for turning.  Turn and press, topstitch close to edge.  Repeat for cover.
6. Block cover 1-1/2” larger than book pages.  Put pages in order inside cover and stitch down center twice.
I have used nursery rhymes, Old and New Testament stories, quilt designs from IEC, and Old McDonald's Farm by Sandy Jenkins.
