What type of sewing?

• A combination of Heirloom Sewing and serging!

Dear Friends,
I am beyond excited to bring some of the world's best teachers to Tucson for an Heirloom Sewing Celebration! We are coming November 9-13, 2010. I cannot wait to come to the great southwest again!! You are welcome to come in Tuesday, Nov. 9 to register, 4-6pm. If you can't wait until Wednesday morning to start sewing we are offering an optional Sit and Sew class, 5-8pm, for $60. This optional class is perfect for the early arrivers to get warmed-up for the "big event" and brush up on your heirloom sewing techniques. Actually no heirloom experience is required and we promise you a finished project at the end of the class.

This Sewing Celebration will include four days and nights of classes and fun, all of your fabulous kits will be furnished, as will four lunches and one evening banquet meal. Wednesday night we will hold fabulous tabletop clinics, where you will see many different techniques demonstrated, tableby-table. On Thursday night I will present “Turning Your Hobby Into A Business” in case you are interested in beginning a business or growing a business you already have. And finally, Friday night is our banquet, where I will share my many sewing stories. You are invited to join me on Saturday morning before your sewing class begins for a short devotion time.

We have four of the world's best heirloom sewing teachers, all of whom will teach you a class. Kathy McMakin is President of Martha Pullen Company and has authored three books. Two of her books are about heirloom sewing by serger. Kathy is one of our lead teachers and curriculum developer in our licensing program and has taught heirloom serging and sewing all over the world. Connie Palmer’s talents and teaching skills are beyond compare. She teaches at many of our sewing evetns, has appeared on Martha’s Sewing Room many times and been featured in Sew Beautiful Magazine. She has a wonderful pillow case set planned for you. I know you will love them. Pam Mahshie is the Director of Education for Baby Lock USA. She is very creative and a most talented sewing teacher. Pam’s class is a beautiful version of my very favorite nightgown style.

Missy Billingsley, a Baby Lock Education Consultant, is a dynamic teacher with lots of style. She specializes in heirloom sewing by machine and serger. Missy has been featured in Sew Beautiful Magazine and teaches regularly at the Martha Pullen School of Art Fashion. Pam and Missy are both Martha Pullen Licensed Teachers who have appeared on the Martha's Sewing Room, many times.

We will have a retail store in the hotel with big discounts on most items such as lace, batiste, embroidery CDs, books, patterns, and much, much more. We always have this type of store at our schools in Huntsville and we are shipping everything to Arizona for you to enjoy! Cathey’s Sewing and Vacuum, the Baby Lock dealer in the area, will have a store with great shopping and discounts also. We have seven fabulous projects with wonderful kits planned for you. We have lovingly called our schools, "from can until can't." This school will certainly be jam packed with what we hope will be more fun and learning than you have ever packed into four days! Please come join the fun! We can't wait to see you!

May God Bless You and Those You Love,

Kathy McMakin
Sewing Organizer and Pincushion by Serger

Keep your notions and sewing tools at your fingertips in these handy sewing accessories that are perfect for classes. You will love the quilted base - one long edge of the caddy slides under your sewing machine or serger. The pocket of embroidered insertion and French lace hangs out of the way of your work while holding all of your tools at ready. Never go looking for notions again! When you’ve finished serging, tuck the pincushion into one of the lovely heirloom pockets, fold the organizer and tie it with matching grosgrain ribbon to keep everything neatly organized. A great gift for all crafters!

Kathy McMakin
Knit Pillowcase or Drawstring Bag by Serger

Afraid of serging with knits? Then fear no more. This is the class for you. Fill the bag with your favorite things or stuff it with a travel pillow – it can also be a great baby pillow! Whichever you choose, you will not only love these techniques, you will be planning more serged knit projects before the class is over! Your quick and easy creation will have Victorian beading, silk ribbon, edging, knit fabric and more.

Kathy McMakin
Carry-All Tote with Quilted Pocket by Serger

Learn to quilt with your serger as you add Chainstitch embellishment to the outside pocket of the Carry-all Tote. Make use of the tried and true Three-thread Overlock stitches to construct the tote made of Martha’s linen blend with classic gingham accents. Add handles and this tote is ready serger-quick for shopping, carrying projects and looking fashionable!

Missy Billingsley
Garment Bag

Coordinating fabrics of gingham and solids are the base for this garment bag. The top panel of the bag is decorated with the three “P’s” of heirloom sewing - puffing, pintucks and piping - all created on your serger! Large covered buttons with serger-made button loops close the front of the bag. This garment bag will keep your precious hand-made garments safely tucked away or it might be just about all you need to carry for a quick overnight trip. What a fabulous and practical addition to your travel accessory collection!

Missy Billingsley
Zippered What Not Bag

How can you put in a zipper with your serger? EASY! Of course, Missy makes everything easy. Your cute little bag coordinates with your garment bag and it’s designed to hold that assortment of things that must travel with you. So wherever you plan to travel – be it sewing classes or trips far and near, we guarantee this will be one of your favorite projects of all time. But please don’t tell anyone how quick and easy this bag is to make. Let’s keep that secret zipped up just between us!

Connie Palmer
Spaghetti Bias Pillowcase Set

If you need an elegant shower or wedding gift, but don’t have time for gourmet heirloom techniques like Cathedral windows, Connie has the answer for you. Come and create a pair of regular size pillowcases decorated with shaped spaghetti bias that opens windows to the cotton netting beneath. These are four-star rated and there will be plenty of room for a personalized monogram to be added after class.

Pam Mahshie

Many of you have requested that we make a nightgown - so here we go on a day’s journey of machine magic with Pam. This 100% cotton heirloom nightgown gives you a chance to make sleepwear that is functional, yet elegant.
