Summer is such a fun time for sewing kids’ clothes. Last week I shared a handful of sweet summer sewing ideas for girls, and this week it’s all about the boys! From cute nautical-themed outfits to fun picture smocked designs to a free vintage-look boys swimsuit pattern, there is much to inspire your summer sewing plans:
Sail Away – This cute little smocked romper designed by Kathy Dykstra is a perfect summer outfit for baby boys. The design features an insert picture smocked with three anchors. Bullion knot ropes are worked around the anchor, and piping frames the insert. The pattern (sizes 6, 12 and 18 months) is included in Australian Smocking & Embroidery #86.
Build-A-Bib Romper – This sweet heirloom baby romper was reproduced from a vintage pattern by Cheryl Davidson and Kathy Barnard. The pattern (sizes NB to 18 months) is included in Sew Beautiful: Heirloom Sewing Favorites for Summer and offers one bottom with several bib shape designs to choose from.
Treasure Trove – How cute is this little picture smocked pirate? You can stitch it on a ready-made polo to create a playful top for adventurous little boys. The design features French knots for hair and a cute bullion earring. The smocking plate was designed by Kathleen Barac and is included in issue #92 of Australian Smocking & Embroidery.
Edward’s Sailor Bubble – This adorable bubble pattern from the editors of Sew Beautiful was inspired by a little sailor suit Queen Victoria had made for four-year-old Prince Albert Edward to wear on the royal yacht in 1846. It features a modified sailor collar we call the “Ascot Collar” and is embellished with a sailboat appliqué. The pattern (sizes 6,12 and 24 months) and appliqué template are included in Sewing for a Royal Baby.
FREE Baby Ellis Swimsuit – This one-piece, old-fashioned swimsuit designed by Amelia Johanson keeps more of baby boy’s delicate skin safe from the sun and has such a sweet vintage look. Keep it plain or embroider it with a design of your little one’s choice. You can download the full free pattern (sizes 3 months to 24 months) on our website. The pattern instructions also include some great general tips for embroidering on stretchy lycra fabric.
Look at these precious kids designs from our 2016 Internet Embroidery Club. A cupcake, a dolphin and a mermaid — it doesn’t get more adorable and summery than that.
We pray for the men and women serving our nation in harm’s way, and for all of you.
Much Love to You All & May God Bless,
