Registration is now open for our new online licensing, Heirloom Sewing: Creating Priceless Treasures. Offered for the first time online, this course will begin March 21 and is taught by Alicia Welcher, Kathy McMakin, Connie Palmer, Missy Billingsley and Pam Mahshie. The curriculum includes all the projects and techniques taught at our popular face-to-face Heirloom II licensing retreat; it is an outstanding collection of more than 30 beautiful heirloom sewing projects you’ll love! These projects truly live up to the title of “priceless treasures” — there’s everything from christening gowns to special quick keepsake projects and more.
Let’s take a closer look at the projects:
If you’re wondering if we meant to say christening gowns plural — yes, we did! This curriculum includes not one but two gorgeous christening gown ensembles for baby. Other projects for baby include two precious Madeira appliqué baby bibs (one for a boy and one for a girl), a sweet little tucked bonnet and a baby gown and slip made by serger. There is also a beautiful little girl’s dress, several women’s tops and even doll dresses.
There are a few exquisite pillow projects: a tie-on pillow, a shark’s teeth pillow/pincushion, corded hemstitch pillowcases and French waterfall pillowcases. There’s a lovely tatted fancy band needle case, a couple of tea towel projects and a beautiful Celtic lace and bias table runner. There’s an heirloom wedding handkerchief that makes the perfect wedding keepsake for a bride or mother of the bride. There are cute little heirloom “angel fairies” and “church doll” projects that are so much fun to make. And you are going to love the gorgeous Spring Bouquet Technique Quilt that showcases so many wonderful heirloom techniques all in one project.
In addition to all the projects, you’ll also receive more than 30 machine embroidery designs in multiple file formats that you can use on your licensed projects. Don’t worry if you don’t machine embroider — you do not have to use the designs on the projects, but it’s nice to have a set of designs to use if you’d like!
There are so many wonderful techniques you’ll master during this course. Lace shaping, Madeira appliqué, mitered corners, tucks, hemstitching, gimpwork, crazy patch, bias shaping, machine embroidery, shark’s teeth, cathedral windows, smocking in the hoop, spaghetti bias shaping and puffing are just some of the wonderful techniques you’ll learn and want to use again and again in your sewing.
So how does the online licensing work, exactly? You will receive in-depth video lessons and printable project handouts for all the projects in the curriculum. There are also video tutorials and written instructions for the techniques — plus you’ll receive all kinds of other helpful bonus content like business ideas from Martha Pullen, tips on improving your teaching skills and more.
During this six-month course, the Martha Pullen Licensing faculty will be available to answer any questions you might have about projects, patterns, techniques and teaching methods. Even though you will receive more than 30 projects, you will need to complete a total of only 10 assignments (5 technique samples and 5 projects) to receive your licensing certificate.
As a Martha Pullen licensed teacher, you’ll share the project copyrights with Martha Pullen Co. That means you may reproduce them to use in your classroom or make them to sell without limit. Of course, many of our licensed teachers simply like to sew and create these wonderful projects as gifts and family heirlooms.
We invite you join us for this fun learning and sewing experience. The course runs March 21 – Sept. 21, 2017.
