Our next School of Art Fashion Boutique kicks off Sept. 26 in Fredericksburg, VA! We’re offering five great schools at this event, so you can choose just how you’d like to spend your time with us. Whether you want to focus on children’s garment construction, fitting techniques, machine embroidery or become a licensed Martha Pullen serger teacher, there’s something for everyone! Read on to learn more about each class:
The Little Red Coat with Connie Palmer — Join the queen of children’s garment construction for this fun class! Connie will guide you step-by-step as you make an adorable little A-line swing coat in sizes 3, 4, 5 or 6. The coat is made of red corduroy and lined in red gingham. The front and back bodices have an overlay edged with a charming black ribbon ruffle, and the cuffs and collar are piped in black. Machine embroidery adds another sweet element, and the embroidery designs are downloadable for you to use back at home too.
Sulky Embroidery Zen II with Ellen Osten — Spend your time learning new machine embroidery skills! During this class you’ll complete a collection of curated projects, each designed to highlight different embroidery techniques. Learn tips about hooping and using different threads and stabilizers. Perfect your appliqué embroidery, stitch 3-D embroidery designs and more. Projects include a Market Tote, Scissors Holder, Applique Pocket, Personalized Gift Towels and more. You’ll take home an “embroidery tool box” binder filled with project instructions, tips and techniques. Plus, you’ll get all the embroidery designs used to complete your projects as well as some bonus designs!
Design and Fit from Top to Bottom with Judy Kessinger and Joe Vecchiarelli — Learn how to use dress forms and flat patterns together to achieve the perfect fit. You’ll create your own “body double” dress form and work with a draped bodice as well as sew with top and pants patterns designed for your exact body measurements and more. You’ll learn how to compare and contrast your draped bodice with a paper pattern and explore how you can use the information for fit and design purposes.
Fitting Clinic: Fine Tuning for a Superior Silhouette with Cynthia Guffey — Get a masterful dose of the finer points of fitting, all the while working with the patterns of your choice. Bring three patterns that have been altered to the best of your ability, and the mock-up for each. Cynthia will teach you how to refine the looks – as you learn how to fit for comfort, function and fashion and create a wardrobe of graceful, flattering clothes.
Martha Pullen Teacher Licensing EXPRESS: Serger III with Kathy McMakin and Alicia Welcher — Join Alicia and me as we present our Serger III licensing curriculum! Licensing EXPRESS gives you the whole curriculum, along with the experience of a live retreat – all in a shortened time frame. You’ll spend your time on the serger using beautiful kits to make great projects. You’ll receive over 25 projects with 14 specially selected kits. And you’ll learn so many techniques – beginning and ending seams, outside and inside curves, outside and inside corners, plackets, etc. We’ll have so much fun together, and it will all culminate in joint ownership to this fabulous curriculum!
The Fredericksburg School of Art Fashion Boutique will be held Sept. 26-28, with the Serger III Licensing EXPRESS extending to Sept. 29. As part of your retreat experience, you’ll also enjoy a VIP general admission three-day pass to the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo, which will be held immediately after the School of Art Fashion Boutique in the same venue on Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. Visit our Martha Pullen Live Events site to learn more or register!
