Preview Our ‘Beginning Sewing’ Online Licensing!

Registration is open for our next online licensing event, Beginning Sewing: A Teacher’s Course! This course was originally offered as Teaching Beginning Sewing II, both online and as a popular in-person licensing retreat. The curriculum includes a wonderfully diverse collection of projects ranging from home decor projects and quilts to garments, bags, organizers, accessories and more.

There are more than 30 projects total, complete with both patterns / written instructions and video tutorials. The projects are perfect for teaching beginning sewists, but more experienced sewists will also find they make quick, easy gifts and are perfect pallets for adding more advanced techniques and creative embellishments. Let’s take a closer look at the projects:

Child’s Capri Set

Garments for women include the “Single Button Swing Jacket” and “The Vest of Many Options.” Children’s garments and accessories include a child’s capri set, an embellished T-shirt project and a fun fleece scarf. There’s also a tiered skirt you can make in child or adult sizes!

The home decor projects included are the “Change It Up” placemat and table runner, magic corner napkins and a couple of beautiful quilted projects: “The Road to Huntsville” quilt and pillow and the “Stars Over Alabama” quilt and pillow. There are even fun Hot Dog pillowcases and a photo hang-up that kids will love!

There are lots of great bags: a grommet purse, a beach towel bag, the “Knot Your Ordinary” purse, a beribboned carry all, the “Zip It” bag, screened carry all bags, a drawstring backpack and even gift bags.

Projects, projects, projects!

There are a bunch of great organizer projects: a fold-away jewelry keeper, a traveler’s jewelry roll, the “Everything In Its Place” organizer and a rollup accessory bag. There are some great projects you’ll want to make for your sewing room as well: scrap catchers to keep on the edge of your sewing table and a fold away needle keeper. Plus there is a pretty “Creativity Portfolio” and a decorative journal cover.

We’ll teach you all of our best techniques during this course, from how to install zippers to creating and attaching piping to quilting basics and more. You’ll receive Martha’s Beginning Sewing Notebook, which contains almost every beginning sewing technique imaginable. Plus, we’ll prepare you to teach all the essential sewing skills with confidence in your own classrooms as you use this tried-and-true curriculum. We also share tips for building a fulfilling and profitable sewing education business.

Gift Bags

The how-to videos in this course are taught by me, Connie Palmer, Pam Mashie, Peggy Dilbone, Alicia Welcher and Martha Pullen. During this course, our Martha Pullen licensing faculty will be available to answer any question you might have about projects, patterns, techniques and teaching methods.

Even though you will receive more than 30 projects, you will need to complete just seven to receive your teacher’s license certificate. This license will give you shared copyright ownership with Martha Pullen Company for all the projects in this curriculum and their written directions. That means you can teach the projects in your own classes, make them for resale, or just enjoy making them for yourself or to give as special gifts. Only those who are licensed in a curriculum can teach or sell these exclusive Martha Pullen projects.

I’d love to take this course but am currently enrolled in your Children’s Garment Construction Course. I just have two projects left to complete that course but not sure I could handle doing two courses simultaneously! I’m taking a break for Christmas then hope to finish up the required projects. How often do you offer the online courses? I also saw a beginning heirloom course a few months ago that interests me.

Hi Marla: Registration for the Beginning Sewing course will stay open for at least a month after it begins, so be sure to check back with us when you are finished with your Children’s Garment projects! We typically have a different online licensing course beginning about once every few months. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions you have about any of the courses. We are happy to help and so glad you’re enjoying the Children’s Garment course!

If ok, I may sign up the end of December. I only have two required projects left to do! I hope to have them both done in January at the latest if life doesn’t get in the way! I’ve already viewed all the classes so just a matter of sewing away now! 🙂
