How to Sew Entredeux to Flat or Gathered Fabric

houndstooth-summertime-1-bl

Summertime calls for all kinds of adorable children’s garments – from comfy play ensembles to adorable heirloom creations. But you don’t have to choose between comfort and cuteness with our brand new Summertime Baby Dress, Bloomers and Hat Kit.

The top in this sweet ensemble is a comfortable little play top, but an embroidered ruffle gives it plenty of heirloom appeal. Bias bows keep the top closed at the underarms and a third bow is perched purely for cuteness at the bottom of the back placket. A floppy sun hat protects baby’s head from summer rays, and a pair of bloomers complete the set and keep diapers under wraps.

The adorable ruffle trim is attached to the top by sewing entredeux to the flat fabric, then attaching gathered Swiss edging to the entredeux. Follow the steps below to recreate this trim.

Entredeux to Flat Fabric:

entredeux

– Trim seam allowance of entredeux to measure 1/4″.

– Place fabric to entredeux, right sides together. Stitch in the ditch with a regular straight stitch.

– Trim seam allowance to 1/8″.

– Zigzag over the seam allowance.

Suggested machine settings: L = 1.5, W = 2.5.

Entredeux to Gathered Fabric:

entredeux

– Trim seam allowance of entredeux to measure 1/4″.

– Gather fabric using two gathering rows at 1/8″ and 3/8″.

– Place gathered fabric to entredeux, right sides together. Stitch in the ditch with a regular straight stitch.

– Stitch again 1/16″ away from the first stitching.

– Trim seam allowance to 1/8″.

– Zigzag over the seam allowance.

Suggested machine settings: L = 1.5, W = 2.5.
