Our Martha Pullen events team is heading to Minneapolis this coming week for our School of Art Fashion Boutique! We can’t wait to see all of you who will be joining us, but if you can’t make it we have some wonderful online sewing course options available, too. You can still enroll in our new online licensing course, Children’s Garment Construction, as well as our two new online courses — Montana Bag: A Quilted Handbag and Core Sewing Skills: Darts 101. We also just announced new sessions beginning in December for our Triple Treat: Organizer Projects course as well as Women’s Shirts: The Best of Everything.
All of our online sewing courses provide you with wonderful step-by-step videos, patterns and written instructions in a fun, interactive format that allows you to easily communicate with the course instructors. Read on below to learn more about each of the five online Martha Pullen classes you can register for today:
Children’s Garment Construction Online Licensing
Now – March 1, 2017
Registration is still open for our new Children’s Garment Construction Online Licensing! Join me, Connie Palmer, Alicia Welcher, Missy Billingsley and Sis Hutchison for this comprehensive guide to creating children’s garments. You’ll receive patterns for more than 30 adorable projects and learn so many great construction and embellishment techniques. At the end of the course you’ll receive your Martha Pullen teacher’s license, which allows you to teach the projects, make them to sell or create for personal use.
The Montana Bag: A Quilted Handbag with Katie Bartz
Now – Dec. 16, 2016
Join instructor Katie Bartz for a step-by-step bag-making experience that uses the Montana Bag as its centerpiece. This bag (pattern included in course) features beautiful boutique features like quilting, a perfectly designed Madeira scallop and more. It’s also fully lined, with a generous double pocket (one of which has a zipper). You’ll build a solid collection of bag-making skills as you put it together.
Core Sewing Skills: Darts 101 with Cynthia Guffey
Now – Dec. 23, 2016
This course with Cynthia Guffey explores all of the fitting, style and design options afforded by darts. You’ll learn how to raise and lower darts, increase their size, add a dart when there isn’t a visible dart in sight and more to improve the fit of your clothing. For creative design options and a more satisfying silhouette, you’ll see how to split a dart, move a dart from one part of a garment to another, how to turn a dart into a princess seamline, how to release a dart into pleats and ruffles and more.
Triple Treat: Organizer Projects with Katie Bartz
Dec. 10, 2016 – Jan. 21, 2017
Create an organizer pouch in a trio of sizes in this course with Katie Bartz. This stunning pouch (patterns included in course) can be made with our without an embroidery machine — either way, it offers a collection of valuable techniques you can transfer to other parts of your sewing. You’ll perfect the creation of welt zipper projects and top zipper insertions with Katie’s simple methods as you create this fully-lined project. Plus, these bags are so cute and handy — you’re going to love making them for yourself or to give as gifts!
Women’s Shirts: The Best of Everything with Cynthia Guffey
Dec. 17, 2016 – Feb. 11, 2017
Learn how to sew women’s shirts as Cynthia Guffey teaches you more about sewing construction than you could ever imagine! Follow along as Cynthia constructs two different shirts: the standard woman’s shirt with a shirt-tail hem, breast pocket, collar on a stand and long, cuffed sleeves; and her own shirt design (pattern included with this course), which features a straight hem with length options, front pockets lowered to the hipline for ease of use and a more flattering look (with a banded button closure), sleeves cut with the back of the arm on the bias, slot buttonholes, a hidden placket option, a perfectly curved collar on a band and more.
