Debbie Glenn — Advanced Heirloom (Machine)

Join Debbie for 4 days of advanced machine magic and learn some of her unique techniques for recreating handwork by machine. Class time concentrates primarily on mastery of these new techniques. Students make reference samples prior to beginning garment construction. Confidence gained making samples leads to successful completion of class projects as well as the incorporation of the new techniques into future projects.

Knowledge of basic garment construction (French seams, set in sleeves), experience working with lace (gathering, shaping, attaching lace to lace) & piping required. Please stitch out all possible pin & feather stitches prior to class Pin, Feather/Briar stitches required.

Debbie Glenn — 2 Days (Machine)

debbie_glenn_school_enchante_dressWhether visiting the Louvre or Jardins des Tuileries, it’s not unusual to see Parisian toddlers dressed to perfection. Do you long to making lacy heirloom garments like this enchanting French inspired bolero dress, but find positioning lace frustrating, especially when its gathered, or desire a faster, neater way to finish edges with lace… one that can be used to finish everything from curves to points, without rolling and whipping seam allowances, or having to worry about trimming too close? Then Debbie’s unique lace edge finishes using fusible thread may just change how you sew with lace forever. Quilter’s use fusible thread for flawless bindings, couturier’s for matching intricate designs, placing trims & turning tiny even hems, so why not in heirloom sewing lacework. Using this unique thread as a positioning aid eliminates the need for hand basting, messy glues, and more difficult direct lace & piping placements. The applications are truly endless! Students make samples of pin stitched & hem stitched lace applications using fusible thread, plus channel quilting & machine feather stitching using 30 weight cotton, then apply that machine magic to create a complete wardrobe suitable for their favorite French Miss. Student may select to make Enchanté with a white linen bodice bordered by green feather stitching accented with pink seed beads (or hand embroidered poises) and a pink linen skirt, or in all pink with white feather stitching. From it’s sweet lace trimmed angel sleeves and shaped lace tab, to the pin stitched scalloped hem this little dress is truly enchanting!

Amorette means “Little Love” in French and this adorable little dress certainly lives up to its name. Special features include a unique shaped yoke which overlays a cascade of gathered French lace ruffles. The button trimmed piped yoke is sprinkled w/ hand stitched posies and topped with an appliqué cord initial. The contrast Peter pan collar and bias bound cuffs are trimmed with piping and more gathered French lace edging. A row of additional buttons and a pin stitched extended French seam placket add interest from behind.
