Tree Ornaments To be used with Christian & Christmas Symbols
2. Draw an outline of the ornament shape you wish to use around the design, such as a diamond. Draw a small circle for the hanger at the top and mark the horizontal and vertical center of the diamond shape.
3. Cut a piece of organza (or chosen fabric) large enough for the ornament design plus the template adding 1"-2" extra. Mark the center of the organza with a wash-away marker. 4. Hoop a piece of Floriani Wet&Gone Tacky stabilizer. Remove the release paper and place the organza centered onto the stabilizer and press in place. Embroider the chosen ornament design. 5. Remove the hoop from the machine. Remove the embroidered design still attached to the stabilizer from the hoop. 6. Trace the ornament shape (Fig.1) centered around the ornament design. 7. Thread the sewing machine with chosen decorative thread (rayon embroidery, metallic, cotton) and wind a bobbin with the same thread. Straight stitch along the traced line of the ornament shape. Straight stitch a second time 1/8" outside the first line (move the needle one click). Straight stitch around the circle for the hanger also. 8. Trim the organza away outside of the double line and from inside the hanger circle. (Note: If the tacky stabilizer bothers you after the organza is trimmed away; place a piece of the release paper over the exposed tacky areas. 9. Stitch again over the straight stitched lines and hanger circle with a zigzag stitch wide enough to cover the double line of straight stitching. Fig.2 Trim away any stray threads outside of the zigzag.
10. Stitch over the zigzag stitches with a satin stitch slightly wider than the previous zigzag. Fig.3
11. Once the satin stitching is complete, trim away any excess stabilizer. 12. Rinse and soak the ornament in water to remove any remaining stabilizer. 13. Press the ornament face down on folded towels. 14. Cut a piece of ribbon or cord and insert through the hanger opening and tie in a bow for placing on a tree. |
