The Prayer of Jabez

1 Chronicles 4:10

10 - Jabez cried out to the God of Israel,"Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

Recently, I received a book from my friend, Mary, in Oregon. It is a very little book, and I read it on the plane to California. It changed my life - and I wanted to share the name of the book with you. "The Prayer of Jabez" by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson can be found in Christian bookstores and at the publisher's web site http://www.multnomahbooks.com. Dr. Wilkinson is the founder and president of "Walk Thru the Bible" ministries. The price marked on the back of the book is $7.99. To me, it is worth about a million dollars or more.

Jabez prayed for four things: 1. Bless him; 2. Help him in his work; 3. Be with him all the time and in all of his activities; and 4. Keep him from evil. Ever since I read this book I have been praying this prayer - silently and out loud. While on the plane to California, I was praying that God would bless our Martha's Sewing Market in Pomona and the school in Pasadena. I prayed His hand would be with me in witnessing for Him while I was working in California. I prayed for strength for two very hard weeks. I prayed God would help me expand my business in California. I prayed God would let me touch people who don't always hear prayers before meals in a business setting. I prayed that Kathy, Peggy and I would show his love to all people in such a way that they would know God owned this whole business. Of course, we who are reading this know that God owns all businesses, but not everybody knows that.

Sometimes I think it is selfish to ask the Lord to bless my business and me. It somehow seems strange in a way. However, in this book, Dr. Wilkinson points out so many examples about how this prayer changed lives and businesses and ministries. There are not words for me to explain this book it is so wonderful.

I have memorized this Old Testament verse. Possibly you are going through a difficult time right now with worries and anxieties. You also might want to memorize this prayer and speak it silently or aloud during the day. I love this verse of scripture - as I do all the verses - but somehow this book touched me very deeply. I am so thrilled my friend sent me this book. I love this prayer.

The last sentence of this verse is "And God granted his request." Enough said. God is still in the miracle business for my life and for yours. Brother Dick says, "Don't be surprised when God produces miracles. That is his business." God bless each of you who reads this message. Thank you for clicking on the cross section of http://www.marthapullen.com. To me, this is the most important part of my web site.
