It is very rare to find dresses made for the older girl. This dropped-waist
Swiss batiste white dress is elegant and simple. The set-in sleeves
have lace insertion which has been hemstitched. The good news is if you have
a newer model sewing machine you probably have a wing needle entredeux
(hemstitching) stitch built in. You can hemstitch your laces down just like
they were done in Victorian times. The collar has a scalloped front with
lace shaped in the scalloped shape. Once again it is hemstitched down. The
gathered lace edging around the collar has been hemstitched also. There are
two rows of white French lace hemstitched onto the front of the dress. The
skirt is really two skirts, both of which have a scalloped bottom with the
gathered lace being hemstitched to the scallops. A piece of insertion has
been hemstitched down the back of the bodice. The neck opening is large
enough for the child's head to go through; therefore there are no buttons
and buttonholes.
