Made of white cotton Swiss batiste, this dress is a masterpiece of details. The high yoke has folded tucks with lace insertion mitered beneath the square-yoke tucked section. Gathered lace edging is stitched beneath the white lace insertion. There is also another row of lace insertion traveling around the bodice beneath the armscye. Three tucks are beneath this and another row of lace insertion. There is Swiss entredeux stitched in-between every one of these areas. The sleeves are glorious with folded, hand-stitched tucks all the way down the sleeve. The cathedral lace treatment of the white insertion has entredeux all the way around it. At the bottom of the sleeve is found more entredeux, lace insertion, entredeux and lace design. Folded, released tucks hold in the fullness of the skirt. Cathedral lace columns are once again used on the skirt with entredeux stitched all the way around them. Seven folded tucks go around the skirt. Entredeux is at the bottom of this tucked skirt treatment with French lace insertion, more entredeux and a beautiful ruffle. This ruffle has three tiny folded tucks and white French edging stitched on straight at the bottom of the ruffle. The back of the dress is exactly like the front except it has buttons and loops. I can just imagine that this little girl had a very special portrait made in this dress of a lifetime. By the way, every stitch of this dress is by hand! |
