16. Tucked Elegance Graduation Dress

Folded tucks as well as pintucks make this white Swiss batiste dress a masterpiece. Why do I call it a graduation dress? When a girl graduated from school (which was many times about the 8th grade), she received a beautiful white dress. Many times this was also the dress in which she was married. My thinking is that this is such a dress. Pintucks are mitered around the neckline making it slightly lowered and slightly squared. Lace insertion and gathered lace edging finish the neckline. Lace is attached to the bottom of this pintucked piece and mitered into this square shape also. The front is elegant with gathered fabric, lace insertion, a strip of pintucks, more lace insertion and three folded tucks of different widths. The waistline is v'd and has lace insertion, lace pintucks and more lace insertion. The sleeves have two pieces of lace insertion with pintucking in the middle about halfway down the sleeve. The cuff is beautiful with lace insertion at the top and bottom of another pintucked section. Gathered lace finishes the bottom of the sleeve. The skirt has lace insertion, a pintucked strip, lace insertion and three folded tucks of different widths. There is another area of embellishment just like the one just described for the bottom of the dress. It is finished with a hem at the bottom. The back of the dress is identical to the front except for the fact that it has buttons and buttonholes. This is one of the prettiest pieces in my collection.
