13. Oval Loop Embroidered Blouse

The front of this blouse is so pretty with its five rows of very narrow insertion curved around the shoulders and dipping into a loop in the center front. Beautiful flowers and stems embellish the inside of the looped treatment and the hand embroidery trails out to the side of the blouse. Tiny insertion, not edging, is used to finish the neckline. I wonder if this seamstress just did not have any edging or if she chose to make a design statement which is a little unusual. The sleeves are very pretty with two pieces of wide Swiss insertion attached to each other. This Swiss insertion has entredeux stitched in on both sides. The lace insertion at the top of the Swiss insertion is spaced about 3/4 inch above the eyelet insertion. There is a row of hand embroidery going all the way around the sleeves above the French insertion. Pleats are sewn in around the front waistline of the blouse to hold in the fullness. The back closes with hidden buttons and buttonholes.
